What each plugin does without paying

The CookieYes plugin runs without a CookieYes account: its WordPress.org listing calls the web-app link optional, and CookieYes says a banner appears on activation with no configuration. Its Free plan adds a working banner, automatic cookie blocking and the cookie scanner for one domain, up to 5,000 pageviews a month. The CookieYes plugin guide covers setup.

Complianz Free has a banner, an automatic cookie scan, script blocking and a privacy policy generator, for a single site, with no pageview limit. Best free cookie consent banner compares free options beyond WordPress.

Paid features and where they live

CookieYes keeps its premium features on the web app, so connecting the plugin to a paid plan unlocks them: Global Privacy Control (a browser signal that tells a site not to sell or share a visitor's data), geo-targeting (one banner for some regions, another for the rest) and IAB TCF v2.4 on Pro, $25 a month per domain billed monthly; branding removal on Ultimate, $55 a month per domain; higher pageview limits on every paid plan.

Complianz sells yearly licenses with a year of support and updates: Personal $59, Professional $179 for 5 websites, Agency $399 for 25 with the Multisite plugin. A single-site license does not cover WordPress Multisite. Without renewal the plugin keeps running but cannot be changed, and Complianz offers a refund requested within 30 days.

CookieYes's Basic, Pro and Ultimate plans start with a 14-day trial; payment details are taken at sign-up, and the card is charged automatically when it ends unless you cancel.

WordPress setup notes: code order and Consent Mode

If you install CookieYes by pasting its code instead of the plugin, CookieYes says to put the code before any other script, because auto-blocking may not work as intended when it comes after them. Its Consent Mode article says the Google Tag Manager method is incompatible with the WordPress plugin, which has its own Google Consent Mode toggle. The plugin's listing also warns that installing it alone is not enough for the GDPR or the CCPA.

Nothing here is legal advice: CookieYes is a technology platform that assists with compliance, the site owner stays responsible for it, and a qualified lawyer can say what your site needs. CookieYes vs Complianz covers the rest of the choice.
